Introducing District 9 Vice President Stan Lazarian

Stanley R. Lazarian
President
Electric Service & Supply Co.
Pasadena, CA
Los Angeles Chapter, NECA

BACKGROUND
Lazarian has been a lifelong resident of Pasadena. He earned his B.A. from Westmont College and then his M.A. in theology/marriage and family counseling from Fuller Graduate School of Psychology. He worked with high school students for 11 years and then returned to the family business as a purchasing agent. He spent several years as an estimator, project manager and Vice President before becoming ESSCO’s president in 1993.

COMPANY INFORMATION
Electric Service & Supply Co (ESSCO) was founded in 1949 by Stan’s father, Steve Lazarian, who had served as an electricians mate in the Navy during WWII. Throughout its history, ESSCO has performed a variety of construction projects including commercial, industrial and design build. A large percentage of ESSCO’s work has been public works contracting and public buildings.

INVOLVEMENT WITH NECA
Lazarian has been active in the Los Angeles Chapter since 1984, serving on several committees. Since 1999, he has been chairman of the Labor Management and the Negotiating Committees and served on his local LMCC and the Southern California IBEW/NECA Trust Fund. Nationally, Lazarian has Government Affairs Committee, Political Leadership Council and chaired NECA’s Statewide Government Affairs Committee in California.

“Labor relations is probably NECA’s most important and visible service,” Lazarian said. “But two other services stand out for me – the opportunity to learn from other contractors and the positive things we can do when we work together.”

OUT OF THE OFFICE
Stan and his wife Sue have been married since 1974. Son Tyler is a foreman for ESSCO, and son Sean is an estimator/project manager/computer geek. “Working in a family business with my wife and sons is a privilege,” Lazarian said.

Stan and Sue travel to Armenia a couple times a year, and Stan volunteers as president of the Armenian Gospel Mission, a humanitarian relief organization that serves impoverished families in the former Soviet Republic of Armenia. In addition to providing food, clothing and medical supplies, AGM owns and operates 16 kindergartens, a medical clinic and a trade school. The group is currently building low-cost homes for families who lost their homes in the 1988 earthquake and have been living in freight containers for the last 20 years.

Stan also claims to be a certifiable golf nut.
