Description
For NECA contractors both large and small, the development of qualified and professional field leadership teams is an ongoing and often unmet challenge. With large numbers of skilled field leaders retiring, differing generational mindsets entering the workforce, and the implementation of technology based workflows, the necessity for contractor driven educational opportunities has never been more important.

Jason McCarty has over 34 years of experience in the electrical construction industry. He began his career as a material handler in 1991 in Portland, Oregon. He completed IBEW local 48’s five-year apprenticeship program in 1998 becoming a licensed inside wireman in both Oregon and Washington. He was provided with his first opportunity to run a project as a foreman shortly thereafter and has worked in varying degrees of leadership roles throughout his career.
From the years of 2003 to 2016, Jason travelled the world working on US Embassies and military bases. In total, he was worked as an electricain in 22 countries on 5 continents.Jason is also the author of two construction management books focused on field leadership:
1. Construction Leadership Success (2011)
2. Effective Leadership Skills for Construction Field Leaders (2016, 2021)Jason delivers a weeklong course to apprentice instructors from around the country titled “Preparing for Leadership” at the National Training Institute (NTI) held in Ann Arbor, Michigan each year. This course is based on and delivered utilizing information, materials, and exercises from his book, Effective Leadership Skills for Construction Field Leaders.
